Gym Hygiene: What You Need To Know As Gyms Reopen
by Peter Bua on June 19, 2020
Gyms are reopening around the United States, and, for many of us, that is great news! People are excited to leave their home workouts and get back into their gym routine. Good gym hygiene will be more important now than ever! However, it’s important to note that the gym will look different as businesses take proper precautions to slow the spread of Covid-19. The gym is known as a place where viruses spread quickly, so it’s important to take extra care with proper gym hygiene. Using these gym hygiene tips, you’ll be able to stay safe and get your daily exercise in!
Bring Your Own Water Bottle
If you were already doing this before Covid-19, then you’re already on the right track! As an extra precaution, sharing a water fountain should be avoided. It’s easy to spread germs through the community watering hole, but it’s also easily avoided by simply bringing your own water bottle.
Wipe Down Your Gym Equipment
We talked about this in our original proper gym hygiene blog, but it’s even more important now. All gyms should have sanitizer available to use to wipe down gym equipment. Keep your gym safe by wiping down the equipment you have used and keep yourself safe by wiping down the equipment before you use it.
Bring Your Own Mat and Towel
If your gym is allowing group fitness classes while still practicing social distancing, make sure you bring your own mat and/or towel. Gyms are doing everything they can to ensure their equipment is properly sanitized, but you can never be too safe given the current climate. Make sure you sanitize your own mat after class and wash your gym towel once you get home.
Wash Your Hands
Are you tired of hearing this yet? :) Hopefully, it has become a part of your routine now, but a reminder never hurts. After you’re done with your workout, wash your hands before you leave, and use hand sanitizer if available.
Take a Shower and Put on a Fresh Set of Clothes
You might think this one is obvious, but there are too many people that lounge in their gym clothes after a workout! We’re not judging; we want you to be safe! :) Once you are home and have taken your favorite supplements, take a shower and change into some fresh clothes! We are so glad that you are excited about working out and getting back in the gym! Working out is a huge part of your overall health and wellbeing. It is one of the single best things that you can do to invest in your health. Enjoy being back in the gym, and stay safe!
