7 Dietitian-approved Sweet and Healthy Recipes to Try

by Danielle Omar, MS, RD

Valentine’s Day may be long gone for this year, but who’s to say you can’t still treat your loved ones to a fancy home-cooked meal? There’s no better way to say “I love you” any day of the year than by cooking delicious food for family, friends, or your significant other. As a dietitian, I like to look out for the health of my loved ones too, so I’ve gathered a few healthy (and impressive!) recipes to help show your loved ones you care long after Valentine’s Day is over!

Bonus: got leftover chocolate? Why not use it up with these delicious recipes! Make one of these seven recipes today:

Whole Wheat Chocolate Waffles

These waffles from The Simple Veganista are sure to impress your loved ones first thing in the morning. They’re chocolate-y and rich, yet made with whole wheat flour! Top them with fresh berries for a special breakfast in bed.

Red Pancakes with Warm Berry Sauce

These colorful pancakes from Whole Living Lauren use pureed beets to make a beautiful red color (and pack in some veggies at breakfast)! You can roast and puree beets the day before so that all you have to do in the morning is mix the batter and impress your sweetie in no time.

Beet Bourguignon with Pilaf

This veggie-packed play on beef bourguignon from McKel of Nutrition Stripped makes for an impressive meal! The stew gets its vibrancy from multicolored beets and richness from red wine, mushrooms, and plenty of herbs. This date-night meal is as gorgeous as it is healthy!

Healthy Linguine Alfredo

With my Healthy Linguine Alfredo, you can serve a dinner that feels and tastes ultra-decadent, but is secretly healthy! Pureed cauliflower keeps it light, while parmesan cheese, garlic, and sage make sure it still tastes rich and delicious.

Balsamic Glazed Salmon

We all know that well-cooked salmon is the ultimate impressive dinner, right? Well it’s a good thing this special occasion-worthy salmon from Well Plated is so simple to make! The tangy and rich balsamic glaze coats salmon filets beautifully and is sure to wow whomever you're cooking for (and provide them with plenty of omega-3’s)!

6 Ingredient Vegan Chocolate Silk Pie

You read that right - this pie from The Minimalist Baker is made with just six ingredients! That means you can get all your silky, rich, chocolate-y goodness with ease. You can make this no-bake pie in advance and keep it in the freezer until you’re ready to indulge in a healthy dessert. This is a great recipe to bust out the leftover chocolate with, too - just chop up those heart shaped chocolates and use them in place of the chocolate chips!

This vegan and gluten free trifle from Kara Lydon is rich, creamy, and decadent. However, it still squeezes in healthy ingredients like avocados, bananas, and cherries! It’s a perfect way to round out your healthy date night.
