6 Tips for a Stress Free Holiday Season

‘Tis the season to be stressed, right? Wrong. The holiday season does not have to be stressful. Here are six tips to help you get the most out of the season, minus all the stress.
Oh, what fun it is to shop online!
Online shopping can save you time, money, and stress! Who wants to get in their car, spend twenty minutes looking for a parking spot, then hours upon hours of roaming the mall for the perfect gift? Not. Me. Try shopping online for the people on your shopping list. The gifts get delivered right to your door, and some online retailers even have gift wrapping options (personally I'm all about //time.com/money/4586687/amazon-2016-holiday-shopping-season-sales/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Amazon Prime, I mean I can shop late and still get my gifts on time without rush delivery - it's a Christmas miracle)!
Deck the halls with boughs of gift cards!
I know what you’re thinking, “//blog.motivemetrics.com/the-psychology-of-holiday-gifts-are-gift-cards-impersonal-or-appreciated" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gift cards are impersonal.” That’s where you’re wrong. Unless you have people on your list who know specifically what they want, the gift card is the way to go. Gift cards allow the giftee to buy whatever their heart desires! That way, you don’t have to stress about saving any receipts for gift returns.
I’ll be home for Christmas, but don’t buy me a gift!
If the list of people you feel you have to buy presents for is too long, then cut it back! Maybe this is calling a truce on presents between you and your siblings, or cousins, or family. Or maybe this is getting everyone to agree to only buy gifts for the children. Better yet, maybe this is agreeing to a family secret santa with a price cap. Secret Santa is a great way to let everyone be involved with gift giving, but also cuts out the stress of having to buy a gift for everyone.
Have a holly, jolly Christmas, but wrap the presents as you go!
If you’re like me, then you might find yourself beneath a mountain of need-to-be-wrapped presents on Christmas Eve. Now, don’t get me wrong, I enjoy wrapping presents. It de-stresses me. But sometimes I wait until the last minute, and it losses all its appeal. Wrapping as you go is a great way to keep presents hidden (behind the wrapping paper!), and keep your holiday season stress free. It can also ensure that you don’t lose gifts because once you wrap them, you slap on the giftees name, and then put that bad boy under the tree. It might even add to the decor.
On the third day of Christmas, I went to the gym.
Exercise! Exercise is proven to help you de-stress. So instead of running around the mall (weaving in and out of your fellow consumers like a rat in a maze), go for a run outside, or hit up the gym. Remembering to take care of yourself can be the difference between enjoying and hating the holiday season.

Getting enough sleep is always important. But during the stressful holiday season, a good night’s sleep can give you the mental boost that keeps you sane, and helps you focus. So just because the company holiday party lasts until midnight does not mean you have to stay until midnight.
