Last month we announced our search for unbreakable women––ladies who are pursuing their entrepreneurial or personal health and fitness goals. We asked you, our dear community, to nominate women you knew, and to tell us what makes you think they are unbreakable.
We enjoyed reading your stories, and were inspired to see so many women recognizing other women who they saw as heroines in their own homes and communities! It’s so inspiring to see our community of women across the nation, lifting each other up and supporting each other’s dreams.
You also answered our call by contributing to the Unbreakable Awards fund! For every box sold in March, we donated $2 towards the fund––which allowed us to support two more women!
It was difficult picking only three, but we’re excited to announce the recipients of the 2016 Unbreakable Awards! These women all share a common characteristic: unwavering determination. Whether it’s to work in their communities, homes, or businesses, these three women are models for the strength and valor it takes to go after your dreams.
We’ll be interviewing each of these women and publishing blog posts so you all can get to know them better, but in the meantime, here’s a brief introduction to these unbreakable women!
Jess, 1st Place
Our $1,000 grant winner is Jess, founder and Chief Kitchen Cheerleader of Cook Smarts. We received Jess’ name through a nomination by her friend, who said, “Jess’s own personal health story is truly inspiring, and the way she has been able to transform the lives of thousands of women and families through her meal-planning company, Cook Smarts, is amazing!”
We read Jess’ story and are in awe of all she’s overcome and accomplished––and we think you’ll be, too! You’ll get to learn more about Jess’ story on the blog soon.
Charice, 2nd Place
After reading Charice’s nomination from her sister Chana, our hearts were warmed. Charice is a passionate computer teacher in Illinois, who also coaches a girls hockey team!
Chana writes: “My sister deserves to win the Unbreakable Award because she is a very dedicated teacher and passionate ice hockey coach to many young students and skaters in her community. As the only female ice hockey coach [in her community], she has inspired so many young girls to participate in the sport of ice hockey and to join teams that are only made up of boys. Charice is one of the most patient, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic people I have ever met. Her sweet and calm demeanor makes her personality infectious. So many people look to her as a role model because she has accomplished so many in the ice hockey world that no other female has accomplished.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves! Charice is receiving a $500 award, and we can’t wait to introduce her to you all in the coming weeks.
Erin, 3rd Place
If anyone has overcome life’s toughest challenges, it’s Erin. Before she arrived in Chicago with her newlywed husband, Erin fought her way out of drug and alcohol addiction. “I also battled with using exercise and food as drugs when I stopped putting as much effort into my recovery,” she says on her blog. “Once I learned to use exercise and food as my friend instead of my enemy, I developed a passion for both.” She’s currently a personal trainer in Chicago, and building her own brand at Erin’s Inside Job, and we’re thrilled to be awarding her $250 to help her reach her goals!
Keep an eye out for their upcoming interviews right here on the Cal-EZ blog!
